Investments of more than €7 million for new technologies and impact reduction

More profiled steel for large infrastructure projects

Nave (Brescia), 10 June 2023 – A new facility in Nave for Presider to process steel destined for infrastructure projects. Over €7 million invested to fully revamp the production facility, which covers a total area of approximately 26,000 m2 (14,000 of which is covered), and new equipment for profiling and assembling steel structures.

Thanks to this new equipment setup, which is continuing the area's steelmaking tradition, production capability in Nave can exceed 35,000 tonnes/year, with the aim of doubling that figure in the coming years, partially due to the marked acceleration of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Presider, which has been part of the Feralpi Group since 2015, is expanding to extend its Northern Italy network by integrating the branches in Borgaro Torinese (TO), Pomezia (Rome) and Saint-Soupplets (Paris), where it operates as Presider Armatures to support large projects in the French market.

"It's taken over two years to transform the Nave business, which is now ready, under the guidance of Presider to process Feralpi steel for large international infrastructure projects", commented Giuseppe Pasini, Chairman of the Feralpi Group. “Verticalisation is part of our business model to add value along supply chains, as is the development of best industrial practices based on social and environmental sustainability. Here in Nave we wanted to continue the manufacturing tradition in a facility that has always had steel in its blood, but by interpreting the wealth of expertise in terms of the future, with innovation, safety, automation and efficiency at the fore”.

"Presider represents a strategic link within the construction chain, and has indeed been so in recent years in Italy and in Europe, with infrastructure projects having had to evolve in terms of durability, quality, safety, and of course sustainability", underlined Maurizio Fusato, the company's managing director. "The entire supply chain must take a leap forward with regard to skills and technologies, with modern facilities for example, such as the one we're opening today, where steel can be safely processed and assembled for just-in-time site installation. This is a commitment which will be appreciated on the market, because it's the only way to enable the implementation of infrastructure within planned timescales while simultaneously accelerating a reduction in CO2 emissions along the entire value chain."

This was the strategy underpinning the process for quantifying direct and indirect emissions resulting from Presider products, by calculating the carbon footprint, with the aim of implementing targeted actions to further reduce their impact.

Investments also included a recently-installed photovoltaic system, which extends over 6000 m2 and can generate more than 1200 MWh of renewable electricity, an amount that exceeds the facility's requirements. The remaining energy will be transferred to Feralpi, which has the increasing use of self-produced green energy in its own decarbonisation strategy.

Both companies are therefore part of a climate management plan that is in line with Feralpi's ESG strategy, with the aim of achieving the objectives set out in the European Green Deal initiative in terms of decarbonisation by 2030.
